Current Conditions at Pretty Run Station in Vinton County - South Bloomingville, OH

Pretty Run station is located about 25 miles west of Athens in northern Vinton County. In addition to its rural setting, it is in the middle of a "frost hollow." Frost hollows dam up cold, sinking air on calm, clear nights and lead to temperatures much colder than surrounding areas. We have seen morning low temperatures as much as 25 degrees colder than Scalia Lab's readings. This effect highlights the difficulty of forecasting in areas with variable terrain like southeastern Ohio. If you live in a deep valley, these observations may be much closer to your true conditions than those from Scalia Lab.
