The name of this organization shall be Ohio University's American Meteorological Society Student Chapters and referred as this from this point forward.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be to offer an exciting and interactive approach to Meteorology.
Article III: Affiliations
The Chapter is affiliated with the Ohio University's Department of Geography within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Article IV: Membership
Section 1
The membership of this organization shall consist of enrolled Ohio University students. It may consist of undergraduate and graduate members who are pursuing a degree in meteorology or any related field.
Section 2
This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individuals for reasons of race, national origin, color, religion, gender, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, and/or ability status.
Section 3
Membership in this organization is strongly encouraged for those majoring in Meteorology. It is also open to all those in a related field or those who show strong interest and knowledge in weather.
Article V: Officers
Section 1
The officers of the organization shall consist of the following:
President - The President of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society will be the primary liaison between chapter members, officers, committees and committee chairs, the faculty advisor, and University Student Organizations. The president will oversee all chapter communications, fiscal responsibilities, meetings, and events, and ensures that the chapter is serving both the community and the National AMS. The president designates full-chapter and officers meetings, prepares meeting agendas, and directs these meetings with the aid of officers and committee heads. The President promotes equality, fairness, academic achievement, and professional advancement within the group through programming and leadership, and serves as the highest leader of the chapter. The President always serves a dual role as the Symposium Co-Chair.
Vice President - The Vice President of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society serves as the leader of all committee heads and committees, and will oversee all committee activities. The Vice President ensures that the committees are completing their tasks within an appropriate time frame, communicating professionally, and reporting their achievements during the full-chapter meetings. The Vice President is the “Chair of the Chairs,” and acts as the highest leader under the President. The Vice President always serves a dual role as the Symposium Co-Chair.
Secretary - The Secretary of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society serves as the liaison between all chapter members, officers, faculty advisor, and the National AMS. The Secretary records minutes at every full-chapter and officer’s meeting, and reports these minutes to members in a timely and appropriate manner. The Secretary also publishes these minutes to the National AMS Chapter Website, the Scalia Lab website, and the Blackboard website. He/she is the primary organizer of all paper and electronic documents, and works closely with all officers and committee heads.
Treasurer - The Treasurer of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is the primary fiscal advisor to the chapter. The Treasurer keeps a record of all incoming funds and outgoing charges, organizes the chapter dues database, and works with the President for the University SAC Funding application process. The Treasurer works in collaboration with University Student Organizations to keep the organization account organized, and ensures that funds are appropriate and available for any and all chapter events. The treasurer prepares invoices, receipts, and purchase estimates, and works closely with the Secretary to manage these documents. The student holding this position is responsible for giving a Treasurer’s Report at every full-chapter or officer’s meeting. Finally, the Treasurer co-ordinates travel expenses to the AMS Annual Meeting with the aid of the President and Events Coordinator. The treasurer always serves a dual role as the Fundraising Co-Chair.
Events Coordinator - The Events Coordinator of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is responsible for all social and professional events conducted by the chapter. The Events Coordinator plans the location, date, and time of any and all events, and serves as a liaison between President, Community Service/Outreach Chair and Fundraising Chair. The Events Coordinator plans and promotes friendly, fun, informative, and professional interactions between the chapter members, community, and National AMS, and is the leading coordinator of travel to the Annual Meeting and other conferences. The Events Coordinator may serve a dual role as the Symposium Hospitality Chair.
Section 2
Qualifications for office require all students to maintain at least a 2.0, or remain in good academic standing with Ohio University. Officers must be in attendance at Ohio University through the duration of their term period.
Section 3
The term of office shall last one year from April 1 to March 31. Election for new officers must be held before the term expires.
Section 4
Should an officers position become vacant during his/her term, the remaining officers will seek out a replacement either through volunteers or another election if necessary.
Article V: Committee Chairs
Section 1
The Heads of the organization shall consist of the following:
Volunteer/Outreach Chair - The Volunteer/Outreach Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is responsible for developing all events pertaining to community interaction and education. The Chair will lead a small committee of students who want to help the chapter participate in local schools, Red Cross, University outreach, etc. The Volunteer/Outreach Chair ensures that the event objectives are beneficial for all parties involved, and attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.
Fundraising Co-Chair - The Fundraising Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is the primary advisor to the chapter Treasurer and is responsible for developing all chapter fundraising events. The Chair will lead a small committee of students who want to help raise funds for chapter initiatives. The Fundraising Chair ensures that the event objectives are beneficial for all parties involved, and attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.
StromReady Chair- The StormReady Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is the primary responsible officer for the Chapter’s StormReady initiatives. The Chair will lead a Co-Chair and a small committee of students who want to help the chapter earn the National Weather Service StormReady seal. The StormReady Chair attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates. The StormReady Committee is a temporary committee.
Symposium Advertising Chair - The Advertising Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society leads a small committee of students who conduct all advertising for the symposium. The Advertising Chair and his/her committee are responsible for sending guest invitations, contacting local media, and utilizing University advertising resources, and works with the Hospitality Chair to keep the guest list, create nametags, and send thank you notes to speakers. The Chair attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.
Symposium Logistics Chair- The Logistics Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society leads a small committee of students who conduct all logistics for the symposium. The Logistics Chair and his/her committee are responsible for booking the event location, handling guest parking, coordinating the set-up and speaker training of all equipment, creating the program, and creating all signage for the event venue. The Chair attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.
Symposium Sponsorship Chair - The Sponsorship Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society leads a small committee of students who conduct all sponsorship for the symposium. The Sponsorship Chair and his/her committee are responsible for collecting product, food, and monetary donations from local businesses. The Sponsorship Chair works closely with the Hospitality Chair to ensure that speakers receive gifts, guests are fed, etc. The Chair attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.
Symposium Hospitality Chair - The Hospitality Chair of the Ohio University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society leads a small committee of students who conduct all hospitality for the symposium. The Hospitality Chair and his/her committee work closely with the Sponsorship Chair to create the menu and assemble speaker gifts, and collaborate with the Advertising Chair to keep the guest list, create nametags, and send thank you notes to speakers. The Chair attends all full-chapter and officer’s meetings to report committee progress and updates.

Article VI: Advisor
Section 1
Our organization advisor must be a member of the faculty, administration, or staff of Ohio University.
Section 2
The duties and responsibilities of the advisor shall be to oversee the operations of the organization.
Section 3
Should the position of advisor become vacant during the year the President and Vice President shall seek a replacement that fits the criteria in section 1.
Article VII: Meetings
Section 1
The organization will meet Thursdays of every week at 5 pm and the meetings will last approximately one hour. In the case of additional meeting dates are needed, the president and vice president will make the decision of those dates.
Section 2
In the case of special meetings, any member of the committee may be allowed to call these meetings in the case of an upcoming event such as a guest speaker or a fundraising event.
Article VIII: Amendments
Section 1
The constitution of the organization will be amended by a 3/4 majority vote during a regular or special meeting. In the case of a unclear decision, a vote will be decided by a committee of officers and a 2/3 vote will be needed by the committee for amendments.
Section 2
All information regarding amendments and changes to the constitution will be brought up during both regular and special meetings. They will also be sent by e-mail to the eligible voters stating what the amendment is and when it will be voted on.
